Since August 2019, I have been delighted to be able to use apply these skills and this experience at Al Yasmina Academy; a truly remarkable school community where students where all students ‘thrive’.

Our globally recognised and admired curriculum, dedicated and passionate practitioners and outstanding teaching and learning, sets us apart from other schools and makes Al Yasmina Academy a very special place to be.

With grades consistently above UK and global averages, many of our graduating students are offered places at world leading universities, however, attainment is only part of the story. In preparing our students with the contemporary skills, attributes and morals needed for their fast-changing, globally connected and uncertain futures, our students leave us as ethically informed global citizens, and future leaders of the world.

This reputation was confirmed in our latest ADEK Inspection, when the Al Yasmina Academy was awarded ‘Outstanding’ in all six performance standards.

MEET OUR LEADERSHIP

Holly Gibbs

Holly Gibbs
Head of Primary

It is with great pride that I welcome you to Al Yasmina Academy as the Head of Primary.

Having joined the Academy on the Executive Leadership Team in September 2019, taking the school through to Outstanding status, it is with great pleasure to lead the ever-growing thriving primary section on its journey through further development and excellence.

Having begun my teaching and leadership career in London, UK, I relocated to the UAE six years ago with a wealth of senior leadership experience, steering schools through periods of change and significant development. Sitting on the Executive Leadership Team in Dubai has brought a wealth of experience in the local setting, including strategic development, inspections, accreditations and devising practical solutions to the complex educational challenges faced in International schools.

As a former International Triathlete competing for Great Britain on the World stage, my philosophy of education is for students to be all-rounded, learning values and skills through exposure to a variety of high performing experiences. These align to the school vision and values of developing the arts of Sport, Music and Drama, building vital life skills such as resilience, collaboration, leadership and a strive for excellence; in turn stimulating motivated learners to succeed in a wide range of academic, personal and social situations.

As technology advances the educational world, it is an inspiring time for the development of teaching and learning, and I look forward to working very closely with the incredible Al Yasmina community to take the school through its next stage of educational excellence.

Sarah Lane
Primary Assistant Principal

My journey to teaching started in the North East of England, where I completed a degree in Primary Education. The first school I worked in, situated in a small English town named Hartlepool, gave me many excellent opportunities to work with children across the different Key Stages of the primary school.

In 2014 I decided to combine my love of teaching and travel and make a move to the U.A.E. My first five years in this country were spent in a large international school in Dubai. During my time in Dubai, I had the privilege of teaching children from all around the world and getting to know all about their different cultures and ways of life. I also became the Subject lead for English, and later the Director of Key Stage 1.

In 2019 I became the Assistant Principal for Primary at Al Yasmina Academy. This was a move that I was very keen to make knowing that Al Yasmina is a school with an excellent reputation and incredibly high standards. I have thoroughly enjoyed leading on all pastoral aspects of the primary students’ education. I firmly believe that in order to be successful educators, we must develop the whole child, focusing on their emotional needs alongside the academics.

One of my key priorities is to provide all children with classroom experiences where they feel secure and confident enough to try out new things and make mistakes, as this is a critical aspect of the learning process. All children should feel a sense of belonging and pride in their school, which is always a top priority in everything we do here at Al Yasmina Academy.

Ms. Jennie Kellett

Jennie Kellett
Head of Secondary

After completing my Geography degree at the University of Derby in 1996, I decided I wanted to combine my love of the world with working with children so in 1998 I embarked on a new journey and trained to be a teacher at the University of Leeds; 21 years later I am still driven by the same underlying factor – I want to make a difference.

After ten very successful years in the UK, I moved to the UAE in 2009, joining Al Yasmina as a middle leader in 2011.

In 2015 I joined the senior leadership team, and I am now very privileged to hold the position of Head of Secondary. I have an excellent track record of raising standards and have been an integral part of the Academy’s journey over the last ten years, achieving BSME Outstanding, Investors in People Gold, BSO Outstanding and most recently ADEK Outstanding.

Over the years, having held various leadership positions, I truly understand the importance of developing the whole child. For me, education is the key to success, and this success is enveloped by a growth mindset where learning is at the heart of everything we do. With this philosophy in mind, there is no ceiling to learning, no limit to success and no cap to achievement; learning truly is an exciting journey of discovery for all.

Operations and Support Services Manager

As Operations & Support Services Manager (OSM) I am responsible for optimising our facilities and ensuring that the safety and wellbeing of our students, staff, parents, contractors and visitors is second to none. As a trusted member of the SLT, I support in creating the environment needed for an Outstanding School.

I began working with a 4-year qualification and apprenticeship in a large local authority services section in my hometown in the UK. Having built on the job knowledge and intensive skills over ten years, moved into management roles allowing me to role model ‘best in class’ technical and professional standards. My last role in the UK as the Contracts Manager for an industry-leading maintenance service provider saw me lead a large team of 30+ qualified engineers deployed across the UK.

With over 25 years’ experience in the trade and service industry, I possess extensive experience in team management, repair and maintenance and have built on this technical expertise to include oversight of operations, facilities, contracts, projects, safety and people. Using a client and customer-centric approach, I have established a reputation for quality, professionalism and results delivery with a service-centric approach in culturally sensitive environments.

My wife and I relocated to the UAE in 2014, and since then I have managed various operations and administrative teams and facilities contracts within the education industry, including a large new build FS to Y11 British curricula school with state of the art facilities. I joined Aldar Education in October 2019 and am proud to be part of the team, shaping the future of Abu Dhabi and beyond.

Callum Neil

Callum Neil
Assistant Principal Primary: Achievement and Curriculum

My teaching career started in 2008, having qualified with a BEd (Hons) in Primary Education, in Dundee, Scotland. An immediate love for inspiring students to think beyond the classroom and instil in them a hunger for learning led to a breadth of roles across the school- including mentoring, leading on teaching and learning, leadership of outreach programs, Sports squad coaching and lead child protection officer. A philosophy of empowering students in the classroom, building their self-esteem and challenging them to surpass what they expect of themselves has fueled my journey through teaching and is something I still strive towards today.

In 2013 a new adventure arrived in the shape of a move to Abu Dhabi, and more specifically Al Yasmina Academy. This has been my home now for seven years with my wife and two children, and it has been a privilege to work throughout the Primary school- first as a class teacher, then Head of Year and now as an Assistant Principal. The families and teachers within our community have continued to motivate and support me as I look to deliver the outstanding opportunities that our students deserve. I am incredibly proud of the consistent levels of excellence our students produce and believe that the curriculum we offer should not only ensure academic rigour but also develop our young people into engaged, informed and open-minded citizens.

Claire Crew

Claire Crew
Assistant Principal: Teaching and Learning

I started my teaching career in Plymouth, completing my PGCE in Secondary Science after my degree in Human Biosciences. I immediately thrived on the challenge of teaching science to a variety of learners from Year 7 to Year 13. Being incredibly passionate about my subject means I found it incredibly rewarding to empower young people to discover a love of science and a love of learning. After my initial teacher training, I moved to Bournemouth. I worked at Woodlands Community School, where I was a Teacher of Science and responsible for the development of the Whole School ICT strategy. After four years, I then moved to The Bishop of Winchester Academy before my husband, and I embarked on our overseas adventure to Abu Dhabi.

This is now my seventh year working at Al Yasmina Academy; starting as a Teacher of Science, then becoming Head of Biology and Head of Science and now Assistant Principal. I have also led on whole school improvement for intervention and innovation & STEAM.

During my time here, I have not only become a mother to two of my own children but seen hundreds of learners pass through the academy. Seeing the learners at the beginning of their educational journey with us and then leave as mature, independent young adults is fantastic. It is lovely when they pop back in to say hello after moving on to the best Universities around the world!

Samantha Pyper

Samantha Pyper
Assistant Principal for Curriculum and Achievement

After completing my BA in English Literature and Educational Politics at Keele University in 2009 and my PGCE at King’s College London in 2010, I qualified as a teacher of English and Literature. Guiding young people to find their love for literature and gain confidence in voicing their opinions on a range of topics is an unparalleled reward - one which I relished for years, teaching in the borough of Camden, London before moving to Abu Dhabi in 2015.

I believe that education can enrich your life, no matter your age - this belief led me to complete my MA in Sociolinguistics, also at King’s College London in 2013.

In 2015 my husband and I decided to look wider than London, and that decision brought us to Al Yasmina Academy. I joined AYA as the Assistant Head of English. My continuing interest in educational research allowed me my first SLT appointment as the Associate Assistant Principal for Teaching & Learning in 2016. Through this role, I was instrumental in delivering John Hattie’s Visible Learning to AYA. In May of 2018, I was appointed to my current role as Assistant Principal for Curriculum and Achievement.

I am privileged to be part of the team that has brought Al Yasmina the recognition it rightly deserves, as the Outstanding school that it is. I couldn’t be prouder of the fantastic achievements of our students at examinations; sporting events; their role in the community and their contributions to the Arts across the region.

My childhood habit of reading; a love for travel and my firm belief that yoga can work miracles if you let it are some of the ways I spend my time when I’m not at work.

NICK WASHBROOK
Assistant Principal – Pastoral Welfare and Standards

I joined Al Yasmina Academy in September 2013 and have thoroughly enjoyed seeing the school develop so much during this time, one that recently led us to ‘Outstanding’. Living in Abu Dhabi is incredibly rewarding and makes me feel incredibly lucky every morning. My son was born here in 2018 and has already experienced so much.

In 2013, I arrived as the Head of Drama in 2013 intending to develop the department across the Academy and broader learning community. Along with the productions, we were integral in the BSME Performing Arts festival, working with schools from across the Middle East. I was immediately amazed by the wealth of talent, passion and drive that our students gave to all of their performances, something that continues to this day.
I have had the pleasure to be involved in all the productions during this time and look forward to our future productions.

Now responsible for leading Student Welfare and Standards across the secondary phase, it is essential that every student feels happy and safe so that they can be the very best versions of themselves, whether that is in their academics, sport and of course, the Creative Arts. This is something that my colleagues feel equally passionate about, and I am privileged to be able to lead this.
